My Daily Exercise

In my effort to be more physically active, I’ve been doing daily walks around my neighborhood. I really hate doing any form of regimented work out. I may start off strong but that lasts only 2 weeks tops before I run out of steam.

Luckily I have trails near my house and if I can do my one hour walk and get 12,000+ steps a day, then I’ve accomplished my goal for the day. It’s also nice that my Fitbit congratulates me once I hit my goal.

New Workout Wear

It’s fall now and it’s getting colder out so I’ve been on the lookout for long leggings to wear. Also, new workout wear is always a nice motivation to encourage more physical activity. I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on workout wear, so I found some really nice workout leggings on Amazon. These have side pockets which come in so handy. I’m one of the rare few that don’t have AirPods and like to leave my phone in the pocket with my EarPods while walking up the trail. I like the high waisted one of these because they’re more flattering. They really suck my stomach in. I’ve already washed them and they are holding up nicely–no piling and the stretch is still good. I’m quite impressed for the price–$16.99.

My Reward

So, this is my view when I reach the top. It might not look like much but it’s like heaven to me. By the time I reach here, I’m huffing and puffing in what feels like I’m grasping for my last breath. Despite my burning thighs, I feel such a sense of accomplishment.

Podcasts that Make it More Fun

I’m not going to lie. It would be nice to lose a few pounds in the process, but that’s not my main goal. I enjoy my time alone and find it relaxing. This is the time when I listen to my podcasts. The ones I’ve been following lately are:

  • The Daily – It helps me catch up with what is going on in the world.
  • The Daily Show With Trevor Noah: Ears Edition – OMG, he cracks me up. Sometimes I would take a longer route just so I can finish his podcasts before getting home.
  • Freakonomics Radio – As an Economics major, this one really appeals to me. It examines what the numbers means.
  • NPR-Life Kit – I wished they had this when I was growing up. I’m trying to get my eldest daughter to listen to it. It’s like a manual to adulting.

Eating More Healthy

So, in addition to committing to my daily walks. I’ve been trying to eat less simple carbs (especially baked goods, which have always been my weakness because I love to bake) and drinking a lot more water. I’ve also heard a lot about intermittent fasting and am planning to research this further to see if it makes sense. I don’t normally eat breakfast now so this would not be that much of a stretch for me.
